Oil Spill: Ogoni Youths Praise Government Over Continued Clean-up Actions

An umbrella body of Ogoni youths in Rivers State, Ogoni Youth Federation (OYF) Worldwide, has expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the proceeding clean-up of Ogoni land.

The organization gave the tribute on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, when it gave an Award of Outstanding Performance to the Minister of Environment, Mr. Mohammed Abdullahi, in Abuja.

Chief Legborsi Yamaabana, the President General of OYF, who gave the award, said that Abdullahi’s enthusiastic curiosity and dedication to executing the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) information on Ogoni land were exemplary

Yamaabana also said the recognition was an indication of appreciation for the victory of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP).

According to him,  HYPREP is one of the Federal Government’s tactical intervention ambitions, with so much value that cannot be over-emphasized.

He also acknowledged the actions of other past ministers of the ministry in the fight to keep the Ogoni people secure.

“We applaud the next true ministers of environment, who at various times, made their contributions while supervising this ministry and the Ogoni clean-up task.

“We, however, want to clearly stress here that, under your alert as the Minister of Environment and the overseeing Minister of the Ogoni Cleanup Project, respective unique achievements are being attained.

“From the Ogoni power project to the recently-approved Specialist Hospital and the Centre of Excellence for Environmental Restoration, you have demonstrated to all that certainly you are the square peg for this square duty,” the youth leader said.

He especially appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari, for keeping his oath to the Ogoni people, as well as providing adequate finance for the project.

Responding, Abdullahi thanked the youths for the praise and motivation and vowed that many disruptive projects would be got off the ground before the end of his term.

The minister, therefore, urged for the support of the youths to carry on with keeping the South-South secure and livable.
