The Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria (SCGN) has reiterated its commitment to strengthening corporate governance and sustainability practices in Nigeria with the launch of two publications aimed at promoting accountability, transparency and responsible leadership.

The publications, Corporate Governance and Sustainability Reporting in Nigeria and the 30th edition of the Journal of Corporate Governance, were unveiled at the Society’s 2026 Annual Corporate Governance Conference in Victoria Island, Lagos, themed “Artificial Intelligence, Power and Accountability: The New Architecture of Corporate Governance.”

Reviewing the publications, Mrs Ben-Willie Osepiri, Board Member of the Rivers State Internal Revenue Service, described them as important contributions to advancing governance standards, noting that they offer research and practical insights for boards, regulators, investors and governance professionals.

The report on Corporate Governance and Sustainability Reporting in Nigeria assesses governance and sustainability disclosures among the 30 most capitalised companies on the Nigerian Exchange, examining their 2025 reporting practices and trends from 2021 to 2025. It evaluates board oversight, reporting standards, sustainability targets, independent assurance and women’s representation on corporate boards.

The 30th edition of the Journal of Corporate Governance examines contemporary issues, including corporate governance and bank performance, ethical leadership, emerging technologies, digital transformation, cybersecurity and data governance.

The conference also featured a keynote address by Dr Evans Woherem, Founder and Chairman of Digital Africa Global Consult Ltd, who called for greater African participation in AI development and stronger board oversight to ensure responsible technology adoption. A fireside chat explored the leadership and governance requirements for transitioning from digital to intelligent enterprises.

SCGN said the publications reflect its continued commitment to research, thought leadership and the promotion of best practices, providing valuable resources to help Nigerian organisations strengthen governance, sustainability reporting and accountability.
