Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited have donated advanced respiratory diagnostic equipment to the University of Lagos Teaching Hospital, aimed at strengthening pulmonary care and improving access to specialised healthcare services in Nigeria.

The equipment includes an Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) system and a Body Plethysmograph, both of which are expected to enhance the hospital’s capacity to diagnose and manage respiratory diseases, including lung cancer, asthma and other chronic conditions.

According to SNEPCo, the EBUS system will enable clinicians to carry out real-time, guided biopsies and accurately stage lung cancer, while the Body Plethysmograph will improve the diagnosis of restrictive and obstructive lung diseases.

Managing Director of SNEPCo, Ronald Adams, said the intervention represents a shift towards technology-driven, evidence-based healthcare delivery, noting that it would strengthen institutional capacity and improve clinical outcomes.

Also speaking, the Chief Upstream Investment Officer of NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), Olanrewaju Igandan, said the initiative reflects a broader commitment to sustainable development through investments in critical social infrastructure.

He noted that improving healthcare systems is essential to building resilient communities and supporting long-term national development beyond the energy sector.

The Chief Medical Director of LUTH, Wasiu Lanre Adeyemo, described the donation as a significant milestone that would expand access to specialised pulmonology services within the public health system.

He said the equipment would make advanced respiratory care more accessible and affordable for patients, while also supporting training and research in the field.

Hospital officials added that the new facilities would position LUTH as a centre of excellence in pulmonology, enabling it to deliver improved patient care and contribute to medical research and capacity building.

The donation forms part of ongoing social investment initiatives by SNEPCo, NNPC and their partners, focused on health, education and human capital development across Nigeria.
