The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has urged traders and other residents to ensure that they dispose of their waste properly.
It said households were expected to own waste bins for proper waste evacuation.
The agency’s Director of Public Affairs, Folashade Kadiri, made the call during an interview with the media on the refuse noticed at the Ojuwoye Market in the Mushin area of the state.
She said while the refuse in the market was being cleared at least twice daily, the public needed to be enlightened on proper disposal of waste and waste management.
“Please help enlighten the people to do the right thing. Households are expected to own a bin, pay for waste evacuation and dump appropriately,” Kadiri said.
According to a recent report, traders in the Ojuwoye Market have raised an alarm over the health risk posed by heaps of refuse in the market.
However, the traders demanded that relevant authorities should ensure that the heaps are cleared at least twice a day.
