Ten brand new, high-capacity fire-fighting vehicles have been acquired by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, to enhance the welfare of flight functioning at three of the nation’s airports.
The Lion Volkan 6×6 Brand, Major Aerodrome Rescue, and Fire Fighting Vehicles (MFFV), which carries 14,000 liters of water, 1,700 liters of foam, 250kg powder capacity each, and monitors the firing speed of between 6,000 liters to 10,000 liters per minute would be moved to the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, and Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano.
The acting General Manager, of Corporate Affairs, FAAN, Mrs. Faithful A. Hope-Ivbaze in a report in Abuja, indicated that “with a speed rate of 0-80km per hour in 30 seconds, each of the lorries carries the unlimited capability to release while in mobility and are also provided with under framework spouts to handle running fire from fuel or gas.”
While communicating the authority’s deep gratitude to the President Muhammadu Buhari-led regime, through the Ministry of Aviation, headed by the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, the Managing Director of the Authority, Captain Rabiu Hamisu Yadudu, noted that in promoting the safety and security of flight functioning, the federal government has concentrated on the tripod of repair/advancement of structures, capability building, and coaching/human development.
The head of FAAN stated that extensive coaching projects had been organized for the operators of the vehicles and the mechanical division to guarantee the vehicles are not only used as defined by the manufacturers but also financed appropriately.
He also said that eight new water tankers for continual agent applications, eleven ambulances, two brand new Response Commanders’ Vehicles, and Aircraft Removal and Recovery Equipment had also been acquired and deployed to various airports.
However, Yadudu, while pledging that the Authority would continue to prioritize welfare and protection at the nation’s airports, tasked the Air Rescue and Fire Fighting Department to make the best utilization of the newly authorized tools.
