Nestlé Nigeria has marked the 2026 World Environment Day with the launch of a multi-stakeholder coalition aimed at accelerating environmental sustainability efforts and strengthening waste management systems across the country.

The initiative, unveiled as part of the company’s seventh consecutive year of environmental stewardship activities, brings together government institutions, regulators, industry associations, recyclers, development partners, and media organisations to drive coordinated environmental action in 12 locations nationwide.

According to the company, the coalition represents a significant shift from traditional clean-up campaigns to a more comprehensive systems-based approach designed to improve waste recovery, advance circular economy practices, and promote responsible waste management within communities.

The programme has attracted support from key stakeholders, including the Federal Ministry of Environment, the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), the National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP), the Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance (FBRA), the Circular Economy Innovation Partnership (CEIP), the Recyclers Association of Nigeria (RAN), the Swiss Consulate, and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, among others.

Nestlé Nigeria said the collaboration underscores the growing recognition that tackling plastic pollution and environmental degradation requires collective action involving the public sector, private sector, development organisations, and local communities.

The company noted that the coalition will focus on expanding waste collection and recycling efforts, strengthening environmental awareness, and supporting practical solutions that contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable future.

The initiative aligns with the global theme of World Environment Day 2026 and reinforces Nestlé Nigeria’s long-term commitment to environmental sustainability, responsible packaging, and circular economy principles.

By bringing together diverse stakeholders under a common platform, the company aims to drive measurable impact in addressing plastic waste challenges while promoting sustainable environmental practices across Nigeria.
