Nigeria To Initiate Eco-friendly Transport System

Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali, has announced plans to allocate budgetary resources aimed at fostering green technologies within the transportation sector to promote sustainable development in the country.

He made this disclosure during the commencement of the executive session of the 18th National Council on Transportation Conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State, recently.

Alkali emphasised the importance of the shift towards sustainability, stating that “the future of our nation depends upon responsible stewardship of our environment”.

As part of the plan, the ministry would work closely with industry stakeholders to develop targeted policies and programmes designed to support the deployment of cleaner modes of transport, such as electric vehicles, hydrogen fuel cells, and biofuels.

The minister expressed confidence that those measures would help position Nigeria as a leader in eco-friendly transportation practices, while also stimulating economic growth through increased private sector engagements.

Alkali revealed that the ministry has made significant technological advancements aimed at promoting environmentally and economically sustainable transportation solutions nationwide.

By investing in renewable energies and innovative technologies, Nigeria aims to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute meaningfully to international efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change.

He said, “Another transportation solution is in engendering innovative and transformative initiatives for the development of new renewable energy sources and Smart city concepts.

“Consciously prioritising budgetary appropriation to tackle energy challenges and creating incentives to attract private sector investment in decarbonisation and other alternative technology.”

With this initiative, Nigeria joins a growing number of nations worldwide committed to building a more resilient and sustainable future powered by clean energy sources.
