The African Development Bank (AfDB), in partnership with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), CGIAR Centres, Regional Technology Delivery Infrastructure (RTDI) partners, Regional Member Countries, development partners, and private sector stakeholders, has launched Phase III of the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) programme.
The new phase of the bank’s flagship agricultural technology delivery initiative under its Feed Africa Strategy is designed to expand the adoption of innovative farming solutions, improve food security, and strengthen climate-resilient agricultural systems across the continent.
Approved with $16 million in funding by the AfDB Board, TAAT Phase III will focus on sustainability, increased private sector participation, digital agriculture, climate adaptation, and the wider deployment of proven agricultural technologies.
Themed “Resilient Food Systems for a Prosperous Africa,” the TAAT Phase III Launch and Implementation Workshop is being held from June 29 to 30, 2026, at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) Campus in Nairobi, Kenya.
Since its inception, TAAT has emerged as one of Africa’s leading platforms for delivering agricultural technologies to farmers. Over the past eight years, the programme has reached more than 25 million farmers, contributed to crop productivity increases of up to 69 per cent, attracted $3.18 billion in agricultural investments, and supported the development of stronger seed systems across the continent.
Building on these achievements, TAAT Phase III aims to reach an additional 14 million smallholder farmers while enhancing Africa’s capacity to produce climate-resilient certified seeds, expand digital extension services, encourage private investment, and integrate successful agricultural technologies into national agricultural investment programmes.
The initiative is expected to play a critical role in advancing sustainable food production, improving farmers’ livelihoods, and supporting Africa’s efforts towards food security and economic transformation.
