Nigeria: BUA Cement Distributes N400m Farming Inputs To Sokoto Communities Displaced By Operations

BUA Cement has begun distributing N400 million worth of farming inputs to about 300 communities resettled following displacement linked to its operations in Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The agricultural support package includes maize, rice and sweet potato seedlings, as well as fertilizers and pesticides, aimed at helping affected households rebuild their livelihoods through farming.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, the company’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Alhaji Sada Suleiman, said the intervention is part of BUA Cement’s Sustainable Livelihood Restoration Programme, designed to support communities impacted by its industrial activities.

Suleiman said the initiative seeks to restore confidence among displaced residents and encourage a return to farming while strengthening food production and household income.

He added that, beyond the distribution of inputs, beneficiaries will receive training on modern agricultural practices to improve productivity and enhance food security in the affected communities.

“The communities need this support as they’ve been displaced from their ancestral settlements, affecting their livelihoods,” he said.

Community leaders and other stakeholders present at the event urged beneficiaries to make productive use of the farming inputs rather than selling them, noting that the intervention could help improve household welfare and economic stability.

Some of the beneficiaries also pledged to use the inputs to revive their farming activities and support their families’ livelihoods.
