Lagos state government has concluded plans for a summit that should lead to the implementation of impact-oriented actions that would lead toward the goal of Net-Zero Emission By 2050.
The summit which will impact all major sectors of the economy is themed “Integrating climate actions in Lagos State development: Investment opportunities and trade-offs,”
Details of the plan were revealed by Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tunji Bello while briefing reporters on the 2022 Climate Change Summit.
According to him, the summit, which is it’s ninth edition, will be an action-packed plan that is aimed at charting a course towards achieving net zero emission in Lagos by 2050 as a state.
Bello said the state will co-opt the organised private sector from the planning stage to the delivery of the summit and the development will be in recognition of the impact of the organized private sector on the economic growth in the state.
Speaking on the theme, Bello said that the theme demonstrates the commitment of the state to Climate Action as a State and how new vistas of opportunities can be opened.
He said: “Recall that last year at the eighth Lagos Climate Change Summit; we launched the Lagos Climate Action Plan. The Action Plan was aimed at charting a course towards achieving net zero emission in Lagos by the Year 2050 through the implementation of impact-oriented actions across major sectors of the economy.
“What this simply means is that we have to accelerate the development of the green economy in the state by exploring innovative climate solutions and mobilizing necessary resources required to achieve this target.”
