The Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, in conjunction with the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), and the Eko Innovation Centre have announced plans to hold the maiden edition of the Agrithon Summit 1.0 themed “Shaping Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems For The Next Generation”. This new, unique platform is designed to foster meaningful conversations, collaboration, and groundbreaking innovations within the agricultural sector.

The summit which is focused on shaping sustainable agriculture and food systems will take place on the 31st of October, 2024 at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

This summit will bring together industry professionals, thought leaders, and policymakers to explore emerging trends, share best practices, and drive forward-thinking solutions across the Agriculture and Food Systems Value Chain.

The Lagos Agrithon 2024 is exclusively providing a platform for Lagos-based startups to pitch their groundbreaking solutions and transform the future of the food systems & agricultural value chain.

The event, according to the organisers, will help solve critical challenges such as food security, sustainability, and efficiency.

The platform will also be an opportunity to make a lasting impact on agriculture while contestants stand a chance to win a share of the ₦100 million grant funding!

Selected startups that have submitted applications to the platform will compete in the grand finale for the ultimate prize, and a unique opportunity to reshape the future of farming.

Agriculture remains the largest sector in Nigeria contributing an average of 24% to the nation’s GDP. In addition, the sector employs more than 36% of the country’s labour force, a feat which ranks the sector as the largest employer of labour in the country.

Food security is a pressing global concern, particularly within emerging populations facing diverse challenges such as rapid urbanization, climate change, economic instability, and political conflicts. Through case studies and empirical evidence, the summit will highlight the multifaceted nature of food security and the need to pursue holistic approaches that address environmental, economic, social, and technological dimensions.
