IHS Nigeria, LASPARK, Others Commission Recreational Park In Omole

IHS Nigeria has commissioned a new recreational park in Omole Estate Phase 1, Lagos, marking another step in the company’s push to integrate environmental stewardship and community wellbeing into its infrastructure footprint.

The park, delivered in partnership with the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK), the Omole Estate Executive Committee, and Lagos State Government representatives, was completed within four months and formally unveiled at a community ceremony.

Speaking at the commissioning, Titilope Oguntuga, Director of Sustainability at IHS Nigeria, said the project reflects a broader understanding of sustainability, one that goes beyond technology and connectivity to include social value and quality of life.

“At IHS Nigeria, we believe infrastructure is ultimately about people and the environments in which they live, work, and thrive,” Oguntuga said. “Access to recreational and green spaces is essential for wellbeing, inclusion, and building stronger, more resilient communities.”

She added that the company’s visible presence at the event underscored its long-term commitment to the host community, describing the park as a shared asset designed to encourage social interaction, healthy living, and environmental awareness.

Community leaders welcomed the initiative as a meaningful intervention in a densely populated urban environment. Hon. Abimbola Osikoya, Chairman of the Omole Phase 1 Resident Association, described the park as a vital social space in a fast-paced city like Lagos.

“This park will support relaxation, family bonding, healthy lifestyles, and neighbourly interaction,” she said. “The true measure of development is how it improves people’s lives, and IHS has demonstrated that through this investment.”

Elder Segun Fayemi, Chairman of the Titilayo Adedoyin Community Development Association, highlighted the significance of the project within the wider locality, noting that it is the only such facility across 18 surrounding sectors.

“This is a landmark achievement for our community,” he said.

From the state government perspective, LASPARK said the initiative aligns closely with Lagos’ urban greening and livability agenda. Temitope Okumuyide, Head of Partnerships at LASPARK, noted that accessible green spaces play a key role in creating safer, healthier cities.

“This park supports our mandate to provide functional and enjoyable green spaces for Lagos residents,” she said, thanking IHS Nigeria for contributing to the state’s broader environmental goals.

The Omole park adds to a growing list of corporate-led sustainability projects focused on urban resilience, community engagement, and environmental quality, areas increasingly seen as critical as Lagos grapples with rapid urbanisation and climate pressures.
