Egypt’s electricity ministry and the Arab Organisation for Industrialisation (AOI) has recently signed a cooperation protocol to establish a company dedicated to operating and maintaining rooftop solar systems across the country, the ministry said.
The new venture, backed by the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) and AOI, aims to improve efficiency, conduct preventive and corrective maintenance, monitor performance, and provide technical support for solar panel installations on public, private, and government buildings.
Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat said the new JV supports Egypt’s energy transition, promotes clean energy adoption, enhances rooftop solar project performance, and strengthens the stability of the national grid. “This partnership will ensure uninterrupted electricity supply while advancing the country’s renewable energy goals,” he said.
AOI Chairman Mokhtar Abdel Latif said the company will leverage local manufacturing capabilities and national expertise to expand high-quality solar services. The move also aligns with efforts to localise production, support the Made in Egypt Initiative, and create scalable business models that encourage public-private collaboration in renewable energy.
The protocol sets out the framework for the company’s structure, ownership, and management and is part of Egypt’s broader plan to increase reliance on renewable energy, improve electricity security, and integrate more solar capacity into the national grid.
