In celebrating the 2023 Commonwealth Day, the ministries of education and water resources have joined a coalition for the protection of young people against future epidemics, especially in the development of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH).
This is even as the minister of education, Mallam Adamu Adamu has celebrated the 7th Commonwealth Day remembrance, his last as a minister, with the theme “Developing a bearable peace, and common future”.
Adamu said characters to upgrade excellent education, computerized study, human privilege, and democratic administration must be embalmed amongst children and young people.
Represented by the permanent secretary, David Adejoh, the minister said this year’s theme is an awakening call that the advancement of harmony, passion, stability, and wealth is the basis of growth and the benevolence of Common Wealth countries in particular.
“Health is wealth. It is worth mentioning that the ministry is cooperating with the ministry of water resources to enhance hygiene and sanitation structures and services in federal educational organizations.
“The presence of truce in any area of human assemblage or country translates to improvement, wealth, and peace. It improves favorable results in business, acquisition, and human privileges and embeds fairness and non-discrimination, which in Nigeria and most Common Wealth represents the charge of youths, women and the girlchild.”
In his statement, the Director of Education Support Services, Dr. L.I. Giginna, said the ministry is bent on generating a normal future that is bereft of allegiance, brutality, constant raids on students and teachers, and demolition of teaching infrastructure.
He said with Nigeria’s power in having the largest population of youth in the world, with about 70 percent of the population under 30 and 42 percent under the age of 15, the schooling sector will continue to ally with developmental partners and will use all unrestricted support for the advancement of health and wellbeing for young people in the nation.
