The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) in a strategic partnership with Lafarge Africa and Zoomlion Nigeria have strengthened efforts to modernise waste management in the state by building a safer, more organised, and sustainable recycling system for Lagos.
This partnership marks a deliberate shift from informal landfill scavenging to a structured waste recovery and reuse framework, in line with Lagos State’s vision of developing a circular, 21st-century economy.
A key pillar of the initiative is the expansion of waste sorting at source, which encourages households and businesses to separate recyclable materials from general waste. This approach enhances the quality of recyclable materials, improves recovery rates, and reduces health and safety risks associated with unregulated scavenging activities.
Through these initiative, recyclable materials are systematically collected, processed, and integrated into the recycling value chain, creating opportunities for sustainable resource utilisation and job creation.
Lafarge Africa’s participation highlights the growing role of industrial players in supporting waste-to-value initiatives, while Zoomlion Nigeria brings operational expertise that strengthens collection and processing capacity. Together, the partnerships underscore the importance of collaboration in addressing Lagos’ growing waste management challenges.
Through these initiatives, LAWMA and its partners are transforming waste into economic value, fostering cleaner communities, and advancing environmental sustainability.
